You may have an apple-shaped or a pear-shaped body structure. Accumulation of fat occurs differently for different people, it actually depends on the body structure. For those whose bodies are pear-shaped, the fat tends to accumulate in the lower part of the body, like the buttocks. But for those whose bodies are apple-shaped, your body tends to store fat around the middle section, thus resulting in fat accumulation around the belly. You must know that there are two types of belly fat – visceral, which accumulates around the abdominal organs, and subcutaneous, which occurs between the skin and abdominal wall.
Choosing an exercise and diet plan may seem harder than deciding on your reception venue. But as with any big decision, it just takes some narrowing of choices. Of course, whichever one you decide to follow, you'll want it to offer maximum energy and fun — both during and after your workouts and meals. Beyond that, use these factors as considerations when choosing the best program for you:
For example, you might not realize just how much you eat when you go out to happy hour with friends. But if you take the split second to take a step back and make yourself aware of that fact, you’re more able to make a healthy decision. “The awareness and then planning and coming up with strategies for what else I can be doing—that might give me the same benefit of eating those comfort foods that make me feel better,” says Gagliardi.
Parsley has many, many health benefits, including reducing effects of diarrhoea, improving digestion, regulating the menstrual cycle and increasing the rate of urination, which means that more matter is expelled from the body, including more calories and thus reducing weight loss. The diuretic aspect of parsley juice also means that it detoxifies the body faster than other drinks, and acts as an appetite suppressant making you feel fuller than you are.
That said, despite what you may think, weighing yourself more often doesn't automatically lead to better weight-loss results, as Paul Salter explains in the article "How Often Should I Weigh Myself?" Your weight is only one part of the story—not the whole story—so don't fixate too heavily on it. How you feel, how you look, and how your workouts are progressing are also crucially important!

I feel as though I’ve been following every step of this all for years, including 16-18hr fasting, and though I am healthy, I have an obvious amount of belly fat. I haven’t had a sugar-related food (other than a handful of blueberries) in over two and a half years. I appreciate your tips, but I still do not see this belly coming off in any way. I’m not huge or obese. I’m very healthy. But that extra 8-10lb rim around me seems to never vanish. The most effective method so far has been bouncing calories around from 1600-1900 throughout the week with one day at 1500 and one day at 2,200. I do yoga 5 days a week, shoulders and push-ups 2 days a week with 2-3 tabata (10min) workouts. I get 7-8 hrs of sleep at night, eat broccoli and zucchini everyday, take vitamins, get sunshine, acv, the whole gamut. And still I look like I eat taco bell and drink beer. Very strange phenom for my case. My brother and wife are personal trainers and their help hasn’t cracked the code either. Not sure how to take this one step further.

A lot of people can lose weight without breaking out the calculator at every meal. But as we age, our metabolism slows and we burn fewer calories per day than we did when we were younger, Bede explains. Because of this, it’s essential to ensure that you are not consuming more calories than you’re burning—so if you want to lose lbs, start counting.

But there are certain things everyone over the age of 40 should be doing to guarantee that the second half of life’s big game is as exciting as the first half. After all, once you hit 40, your body begins to lose muscle mass, the lean tissue that helps you burn fat and calories; women drop about half a pound of muscle per year after crossing 4-0, according to Pamela Peeke, author of Body for Life for Women. That’s why 40 tends to be the dividing line between those who are headed for a long, healthy lifetime of lean, and those who are headed for an early (and probably much larger) grave.

Because we are creatures of adaption, It is often cited that an effective strategy to fat loss is to bring one weapon to the battle at a time, whether that be dropping calories gradually, increasing cardio gradually and introducing a fat burner into the mix only when a plateau has been reached, rather than throw everything at it all at once. This is a sound strategy, it kind of makes sense, but in some respects unnecessary.
Remember the Boy Scout motto about always being prepared? At 40 or older, you most likely have more things demanding your time and attention than ever before. To make it easier to eat lower calories and avoid stuffing your face when you’re starving, always keep your desk, pantry, car, and purse stashed with healthy snacks. Raw almonds and bananas are two of the easiest, but you can get more ideas with these 27 Healthy Snack Ideas Under $1. And whatever you do, do not hit up any vending machines!
Been following you for a little while now. Love, love, love all your content. I’m 61, will turn 62 next May. I’ve lost 80 lbs. so far and needed to ratchet it up a notch to keep going towards my goal of 130 lbs. after plateauing. I decided my walks were no longer effective enough exercise, running or sprinting is difficult/painful because of a high school football knee injury many years ago that I re-aggravated playing tennis a few years later. I decided to try to create a HIIT routine based on basic calisthenics, kettle swings, jumping jacks, push-ups, crunches, deep knee squats holding 10lb dumbbells. I’ve found that jumping jacks and push-ups in same routine makes an arthritic shoulder ache so I need to eliminate one of them and I believe the squats are what are causing my bad knee to ache badly later on in the day. Any advice for gentlemen of a certain age with joint issues who wish to challenge themselves athletically? Thanks for you’ve done for me so far and continue to do.
While meat packs a lot of protein in one shot, getting your protein only from animal sources could actually speed muscle loss, according to a 2012 review by the International Osteoporosis Foundation Nutrition Working Group. Why? Meats, as well as grains like wheat and corn, are acid-producing foods that stunt muscle-protein synthesis. The good news: Fruits and vegetables are alkalizing and can help offset some of the muscle-robbing effects of meaty, starchy meals. "Plus, there are a lot of delicious vegetarian sources of protein," says Dr. Gerbstadt. "Try experimenting with tofu, lentils, or beans. They taste great and tend to be lower in calories." When you opt for animal protein, avoid high-fat sources such as regular ground beef, bacon, whole milk, or full-fat cheese.
Finding the time to get to the gym every other day while planning one of the biggest moments of your life is nearly impossible. In-home workouts cut down on the travel time and keep you closer to home (where you might be needed), but even that takes away from the energy you will need for tastings, fittings, and a whole host of other meetings before your wedding day rolls around. Well we have ways to slim down with little to no effort and guess what? Some of them actually involve buying food! We tapped world-renowned fitness expert Nicole Winhoffer for tips on how you can look your best on your big day.
If you’ve got weight to lose and you want it gone fast, try swapping out your usual proteins in favor of fish. Not only is fish lower in calories than an equivalent amount of beef or chicken, a study published in Obesity reveals study subjects who added omega-3 fatty acids, like those found in fish, to their diets shed more weight and had an easier time keeping it off than those who skipped them.
It is definitely hard to combine both healthy eating with frequent gym sessions, but they go hand-in-hand. Winhoffer states, "Sweating keeps skin glowing, releases toxins, regulates horomones, gets you in touch with your sensuality, connects your muscles, and keeps skin tight. Women must workout to feel their bodies for this important day!" We couldn't agree more!
First, let’s acknowledge the dress. Strapless dresses make up a huge percent of the wedding dresses you’ll be presented with during your search. You will have to try them on in sizes that are nearly double the number that you normally wear (and even then they still fit too small), and most of the time they invent fat. (I didn’t even know you could be worried about armpit fat until I went strapless dress shopping.) This. Is. Not. Your. Fault. I promise that you will regret it if you try and squeeze your body into a dress made for someone else. So find an outfit that makes you feel awesome and works on your body, not on some unrealistic ideal.
12. It can seriously ruin your honeymoon — and set you up for health issues when you become a wife. When you cut back on calories for an extended period of time, your metabolism slows down and burns fewer calories. The second you break your crazy-low calorie diet (from the first bite of wedding cake to the last margarita on your honeymoon), you'll gain back the weight you lost pretty quickly, which can be pretty upsetting for a newlywed who's been fixated on weight loss for months. And rapid weight gain is unhealthy no matter what your marital status.
8. Sleep more and stress less. Easy, right?  This may be the hardest part.  There are plenty of things you can try.    Melatonin and or magnesium at night.  Massages.  Yoga.  Meditation.  Hot baths before bed.  Black out windows and cooler temperature in your bedroom.  A good shrink.  There’s really no shortage of suggestions.  It may be time to experiment if you’re not getting enough good sleep.
Whether it’s playing with your dog, carrying the stroller for your family members with little ones, or exploring a nature path, it’s crucial to fit in extra activity when you can. “Metabolism and hormonal changes in your 40s create an ideal environment for excess fat storage in women – especially in the midsection,” says Marisa Moore, MBA, RDN, LD. “In your 40s, activity is essential.”
2. Make exercise non-negotiable. Everyday, we all make and attend work meetings and appointments with wedding vendors. Why not treat your daily exercise “meeting” the same way? Make some form of exercise a non-negotiable part of the day. Consider taking a brief walk at lunchtime, swapping a ride in the elevator for a trip up the stairs or enlisting a fellow bride in your workouts. Find a way to make exercise fun and you will keep the momentum. While completing your daily cardio, listen to your favorite music, read your new bridal magazine, or watch an enjoyable TV show or movie—you will be amazed at how much longer you can stay on the treadmill when your favorite program is on! Also, consider what type of exercises you are committing to and consider what types of exercise you most enjoy.

And of course, couple these pressures with the messaging that your wedding is the single most important day of your life and you’ve only got one chance to do it right (and a limited amount of time to do so, at that), and we’ve got ourselves a problem. Before you know it, your brain starts playing a never-ending loop of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” while you paw through sample gowns trying to find your size.

While any added activity is positive, high-intensity cardio performed at 75 percent of your maximum effort may be most effective in combating visceral fat, reports a 2009 study published in Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders. Do a high-intensity activity, such as running, an indoor cycling class or circuit weight training for 30 to 45 minutes at three or four workouts per week. On off days, take a brisk walk, do water aerobics or perform household chores, such as gardening and washing the car, to burn calories. The American College of Sports Medicine advocates at least 250 minutes per week of moderate-intensity cardio exercise to achieve substantial weight loss.
While an occasional treat at a holiday or birthday is fine, cut down on sweets and drink soft drinks. Have snacks such as fresh fruit, hummus with cut-up vegetables, a scant handful of nuts or plain yogurt with a drizzle of honey instead. To avoid temptation, try not to indulge a spouse or pre-teen kid that likes to have junk food on hand. They'll benefit from the healthier food choices too.
When Cravers are given craved foods, they are more likely to override their satiety cues and finish the plate, or go back for seconds. The insights the lab can’t provide will come out in clinical settings, with study subjects discussing their food issues and filling out questionnaires about habits and preferences. In this way, Martin is both the Alfred Kinsey of eating- related research and its Masters and Johnson, the guy who measures and records what the rest of us merely talk about.

People naturally lose muscle after 40, especially women after menopause. Because muscle burns more calories than fat, this can slow down your metabolism and make it harder to shake those stubborn pounds. Strength-training exercises -- lifting weights or doing body-weight exercises, like push-ups and squats -- at least twice a week can help you keep those muscles.
Burning body and belly fat with cardio exercises is half the battle. Next is strengthening abdominal muscles so you have something to show once the fat is shed. In a recent study, ab exercises were ranked from best to worst. The bicycle exercise ranked as #1 because it requires abdominal stabilization, body rotation, and more abdominal muscle activity.
Want to lose that belly fat? In your dreams! Seriously, though: a good night’s sleep is one of the best ways to get rid of that extra fat around your waist for good. Among the 60,000 women participating in the Nurses’ Health Study, those who snoozed for fewer than five hours a night were at the greatest risk of becoming obese and gaining 30 or more pounds over the course of the 16-year study period when compared to those who slept for seven or more hours.
Being sedentary is a major risk factor of metabolic syndrome, obesity, and diabetes. But every type of movement is helpful—even small gestures we make throughout the day, like tapping our toes or pacing while talking on the phone. These moves, known as non-exercise activity thermogenesis or NEAT, can constitute as much as 50 percent of the total energy expenditure of a person who keeps busy throughout the day. Simple things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator and taking a brisk walk on your lunch hour can help sizzle calories and reduce fat. These 22 ideas can keep you moving, no sneakers required.
Keep a calculator handy. To calculate your waist-to-hip ratio accurately, measure the narrowest point of your waist and the broadest part of your hip. Divide the values you obtained from the measurement and you have your ratio. The waist-to-hip ratio is a more accurate parameter to measure BMI. Those with a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.8 are susceptible to cardiovascular disease and stroke.

You know you should up your intake of fruits and vegetables to lose those lbs. But even more effective is ditching the meat entirely. A study out of the University of South Carolina found that folks shed more weight on a plant-based diet than those who upped their produce intake but still chowed down on animal products. In fact, a metanalysis in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics revealed not only that people who stuck to a vegetarian or vegan diet lost roughly 10 pounds but also the older they were, the more weight they lost.

Diet culture is so invasive. It’s like a parasite. But marriage and your wedding is so much more important than your body size! I refused to pursue losing weight for my wedding because that would be me saying, yes you’re right diet culture, I am not enough as I am right now. I didn’t want to look back years from my wedding day and remember engagement as chasing thinness. I didn’t want to look back on my wedding day and remember thinking about my body. I wanted to remember engagement as growing closer to Nick, closer to God, and spending precious, joyful time with my family and friends. I wanted to remember the food we celebrated with, the laughter, the smiles, the conversations with those I love most.  I didn’t want to be distracted from all that because I was thinking about food and my body. I didn’t want to remember stressing out about when to fit in a workout or not being to eat blah blah food at such and such restaurant. Living like that would mean I would not be living in line with my values.

The Office of Dietary Supplements notes that although forskolin is thought to potentially improve fat breakdown and decrease appetite, most research findings show no effect on body weight, and fucoxanthin, which is supposed to increase fat metabolism and energy expenditure, hasn't been researched enough to be able to draw any conclusions on its effectiveness. The few studies using people instead of animals involved fucoxanthin in combination with another ingredient, such as pomegranate seed oil or licorice root extract, making it hard to determine how much of any potential beneficial effects were because of the fucoxanthin.
Focusing on being healthy means getting about 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day. This level of exercise can keep your heart healthy and work on things like lowering your cholesterol and/or blood pressure. This is a great place to start if you're getting into exercise after a long break. There's no reason you can't start here and progress to more intense goals as you build strength and endurance.
There is no rule saying you have to go on a wedding diet. But for some people, shedding a few pounds makes them feel their best in their dress or suit. Unfortunately, that goal might get pushed to the back burner between planning the day and attending a number of appointments. Suddenly, you find yourself a month away from your wedding and the number on the scale is the same.

Take time to keep a journal to acknowledge your experience, your accomplishments, and your talents. Think about how your life experience and the challenges you've overcome can help you to become stronger during your weight loss journey. Losing weight after 40 becomes a little bit easier when you remind yourself of the wisdom you've gained over the years.
As we age, we tend to become more insulin resistant which can put us at risk for type 2 diabetes. When you eat foods that break down into sugar, the pancreas pumps out insulin to escort the sugar out of your blood.  People with Insulin resistance don’t use insulin effectively so that cells have trouble absorbing sugar which causes a buildup of sugar and insulin in the blood.  Researchers still aren’t 100% in agreement as to why, but at the end of the day, people with insulin resistance gain weight, particularly around the middle.  And some research shows that lack of estrogen may cause insulin resistance.
If you have one soda a day, studies show that you’re accumulating fat around your organs (visceral fat) and likely giving yourself a “soda belly”—a protruding, beer belly-like gut that’s the result of about 1.8 pounds of fat pushing out your belly. And that’s in addition to all the other harmful things we know about soda. (Diet doesn’t do you any favors.) Soda is such a concern that we’ve compiled an exclusive report that ranks every popular regular and diet soda!
Imagine your future.  Your life is working out better than you can imagine.  Sex is better than ever, you never knew it could be like this!  You just received a promotion at work.  Your boss now experiences you as successful and disciplined and feels you will represent the branch well at the regional meetings.  You’ve enjoyed spending part of your bonus on a new wardrobe, flattering your new slim figure.  You are even choosing styles you never thought you would be able to wear.  You are planning a trip to an island resort for next winter.
To start off, aim to do ab work 3 or 4 times a week on non-consecutive days with at least 24 hours of rest in between sessions, says Gagliardi. During those sessions, you can start with simpler moves like crunches, bicycle crunches, and planks. Even though you may only be directly targeting your abs 3 or 4 times a week, you should still be activating your core (aka, tightening your ab muscles) in every workout you do, says Gagliardi.

Loss of muscle: Like our metabolisms, we also start to lose muscle when we hit our 40s, experiencing a steady decline each decade. Part of this, scientists believe, is that the motor units that make up our muscles decline as we age and that those motor units don't always fire with the same regularity. However, the important takeaway here is this: The biggest factor in losing muscle is the lack of physical activity, which makes exercise a crucial component when it comes to preventing muscle loss.

Anyone who has ever been desperate to shed a few pounds is well aware of the myth of the magic weight-loss pill. The truth is that there is no single, magic pill that will melt the excess fat and shed unwanted pounds from your frame without any effort on your part other than religiously swallowing a few pills each day. There are, however, some supplements that have a thermogenic effect, targeting fat and making it easier to burn when you combine it with regular exercise and a healthy diet.

Once fat enters the bloodstream however it doesn’t magically disappear. There has to be a use for it to be burned as energy by the body. This is why to get the most out of a fat burner,  it’s important to be working out regularly. If you’re not working out and creating an energy need, the fat that gets released into the bloodstream will just be stored as fat again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4Ev17To2XY
